Not only did Imus have a clause in his contract that reportedly encouraged him to be irreverent and engage in character attacks, in addition to stipulating that Imus had to be given a warning before being fired, both CBS and MSNBC apparently had his show on a delay, so both companies knew what he had said, and allowed it to go out over the airwaves.
